It has been a wonderful Fashion season and most remarkable for me was Karl Lagerfeld and his Chanel Shopping Centre Runway. Unbelievable concept of transforming the Grand Palais into a « Supermarket Runway», il était très très chic.
At least 500 everyday products were lined up on the shelves of this fabulous supermarket with the Chanel logo coded on them all. The efforts were optimum but the effect was-priceless. The rows and rows of shelves were stocked with Chanel-themed food goods (all of which were distributed to charities after the show, don’t worry) as well as some Chanel-themed hardware, including Chanel doormats, Chanel spades and gold-bladed Chanel chainsaws.
Lagerfeld said to WWD that “After [last season’s] art show, I said, ‘What can we do worse, something [more about] today?'”. “The supermarket is a thing of today’s life. Even the woman who wears expensive clothing goes to the supermarket, but she shouldn’t go in stilettos.”
Thus to wit: this presentation — there was a heavy feature on Fashion Sneakers, some of which were knee high, Chanel I must say took their creative vibe to a whole new model, from the Classic Chanel Couture to a funky level. He certainly took that inspiration seriously: among the more traditional Chanel-eque touches (tweed suits, luxurious fabrics, gorgeous coats and knitwear), one could find some looks that seem almost track-suit inspired, shopping baskets crafted from the house chain-link, more relaxed cuts and pop art prints.
What else could we have asked for truly? il était magnifique
